Tom Cruise will be in Cannes to present the new “Top Gun”

36 years after the release of Tony Scott’s cult film, the second part of “Top Gun” will be screened at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on May 18, in the presence of American actor Tom Cruise.

American star Tom Cruise will present the new version of Top Gunone of the most anticipated blockbusters of the coming months, at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced Thursday.

“Tom Cruise returns to Cannes with Top Gun Maverick”, which will be shown on May 18 on the Croisette, declared the general delegate of the Cannes festival Thierry Frémaux during a press conference devoted to his new partnership with France Télévisions and Brut .

The film, the first whose presence is confirmed for the 75th edition of the Festival, will be released in France on May 25, two days before the United States and the rest of the world. In the cockpit of the first Top Gun in 1986, Tom Cruise, 59 years old today, returns to service in the role of aviator Pete Mitchel for this new opus, alongside Val Kilmer.

The American superstar had already come to Cannes thirty years ago for the film Distant Horizons. The festival will pay a “particular tribute” to the “absolutely unique and singular trace that it is leaving in the history of cinema”, added Mr. Frémaux.

The Festival is to be held from May 17 to 28, 2022. The composition of its jury has not yet been announced, and the official selection is to be unveiled on April 14.
