For almost a year, Bill and Tom Kaulitz have not only been musicians, but also podcasters: Last August, their joint podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Senf aus Hollywood” started on Spotify. Every Wednesday, the two brothers and members of Tokio Hotel talk about their life in Los Angeles and their glamorous lifestyle. They also regularly unpack celebrity stories.

For example, Tom keeps telling anecdotes from his marriage to Heidi Klum. Bill, on the other hand, already described the house of Oscar winner Jared Leto, who lives in his neighborhood. This time they talked about encounters with two former DFB stars, which went very differently.

With this soccer player, Tom becomes a fan boy

Normally, Bill and Tom are approached by fans when they are out and recognized. Now Tom became a fan boy when he met a well-known footballer at the airport:

“I was sitting in the VIP lounge and then a cool guy walked in with a hat on his face and gold jewelry, so I thought he was one of us.”

And standing in front of him: Jérôme Boateng. “My eyes almost fell out of my head,” remarked the 32-year-old.

He briefly considered asking Jérôme for a photo, but then he didn’t dare. “All of a sudden he was sitting next to me, but he was so engrossed in his cell phone and then it was too stupid for me and I couldn’t bring myself to do it”, he justified his withdrawal. In retrospect, however, he was annoyed because: “He was a regular player at FC Bayern Munich for a long time, very popular and a great footballer.” You have to know that Tom is not only interested in football in general, but is also an ardent supporter of the Munich club.

For the next “fan moment” Bill gave his brother some advice: “You can just say ‘Hi’ to celebrities.” A lot of famous people would actually do that, Tom agreed with his twin.

Schweinsteiger causes astonishment

In this context, he recalled an encounter with another footballer: Bastian Schweinsteiger:

“Do you know who did it last: Basti Schweinsteiger. He acted as if he had known us for years. He came over to us and said: ‘How are you?'”

This behavior caused astonishment for the guitarist: “I thought so, huh? You’ve never really spoken to him before.” But such an encounter is not uncommon, Tom explained: “Many do it, according to the motto: ‘We are celebrities, you know each other.'” But he did not dare to use this “method” with Jérôme.

Finally, Tom told the topic: “There were only so few people I asked for a photo. One of those moments was with Uli Hoeneß.” He met him at a fundraising gala and that was the first and only time he had ever asked for a photo.
