Guitarist Keith Richards and drummer Charlie Watts have been members of the Rolling Stones for well over half a century. Richards is still recovering from the drummer’s death last year, as he explains in an interview. A memorial tour for the deceased is coming soon.
In an interview with the British “Sun” Keith Richards spoke about the farewell to bandmate Charlie Watts. “I’m still recovering from that,” the musician of the British rock band The Rolling Stones shares his feelings. On August 24, 2021, drummer Watts died at the age of 80.
“Charlie is always present and I remember that cheeky little smile that I loved to get out of him,” reveals the 78-year-old in the interview. His death was a real blow, “but at the same time things have to go on. His successor Steve Jordan is also different.”
Concerts are a chance to commemorate
The Rolling Stones will soon have the opportunity to once again commemorate Charlie Watts at concerts. Most recently, the band had another European tour via Twitter announced. “The stones just keep rolling,” it said, based on the name of the legendary band around frontman Mick Jagger. We are very happy to announce the so-called “Sixty” tour in the summer. The starting signal is on June 1, 2022 with a concert in Madrid.
The Stones make their first stop in Germany on June 5th and perform at the Munich Olympic Stadium. On July 27, 2022, there will be another performance in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The Stones had their last appearance in Germany on June 30, 2018 in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart.
Richards keeps fit
“60 years or not, I look forward to it and expect a lot of fun,” Richards said in an interview with The Sun. The guitarist’s love of music doesn’t make him think about quitting either: “If you do it for so long, it becomes quite natural for the body to do it. In fact, it could get tricky if I didn’t do it.”
Richards, who has since quit smoking, wants to keep fit before the tour, but he doesn’t have a specific fitness program. “No, God forbid! I ride my bike a little bit, work out on the treadmill a little bit, but it’s nothing special.” He had stopped using drugs in general a long time ago, and according to his own statements, Richards has had almost no alcohol since Christmas 2017.
