Union of admiration and music between Humberto Ramírez and Miguel Zenón | shows

Mutual respect and admiration of the saxophonist Miguel Zenon and the trumpeter Humberto Ramirez, are conjugated with the music in the concert The Sound of Puerto Rican Jazzthis Sunday, at the Center for Fine Arts (CBA) in Santurce.

“I always looked at Humberto from a distance as a composer, as an arranger, artist, performer, producer, all of that. And it wasn’t until after I became a professional musician that we were able to share more as colleagues”, recognized Zenón, who will offer at the show a preview of his album Music of the Americas, which will be released on August 26.

Ramírez, for his part, who will include songs from his recent proposals Focus and Think Ahead in his repertoire, recalled that “I started listening to Miguel Zenón as early as when he participated in jazz workshops… Many people told me ‘you have to listen to this kid who is in the Free (of Music), he has a talent, he won his scholarship,’” Ramírez said.

The trumpeter did not stop in praise for his musical colleague.

“I like that the musicians who play with me shine even more than me. …Every time that musicians like Miguel Zenón succeed, have awards, make music that people recognize, I feel very proud. First, because they are from Puerto Rico, musicians who initially developed here and travel the world and bring music that has a main influence from Puerto Rico,” said Ramírez, who anticipates new collaborations.
