Unpublished photos of Elizabeth II before her coronation revealed in a documentary

This film, soon to be broadcast on the BBC, promises an unprecedented dive into the intimacy of the queen who is celebrating her 70th anniversary this year.

The BBC is celebrating 70 years of reign of Elizabeth II by broadcasting a documentary on May 29 containing never-before-seen images of the Queen. This 75-minute film, whose title is Elizabeth: the Unseen Queenis devoted to the formative years of Elizabeth II, from her birth to her coronation in 1953.

This documentary allows us to discover for the first time private films of the royal family, unearthed for the occasion from the British Film Institute, where they had been stored for years. The Queen has given the BBC permission to dig into more than 400 reels of film shot in her lifetime.

“An extraordinary and unprecedented dive”

“We are honored that the Queen has placed her trust in the BBC by offering unprecedented access to her personal film collection,” the channel said in a statement.

“This documentary offers an extraordinary and unprecedented dive into the intimacy of the royal family, and it is great to be able to share this with the country to celebrate its platinum jubilee.”

According to the BBC, the documentary will allow us to rediscover certain key moments in his life. Rare footage of the Queen after her engagement to Philip, or vacationing with her father King George VI a year before his death, will be shown. Images where the future queen appears all smiles.
