Every year new films are released around the world, while some become box office hits, others transcend as a classic of the seventh art. Such is the case of titanicaa dramatization of tragic sinking of ocean liner starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio that hit the big screen in 1997. Since then it has passed from generation to generation becoming one of the unmissable love stories for every movie lover.
During the last 25 years, its protagonists have revealed some details or curious facts that occurred during the filming and have been honest about how their careers changed after their worldwide success. In an interview for Infobae Mexico, Victor Garber confessed that it was exhausting to play thomas andrews -the engineer who spearheaded the construction of the titanica– because of the complexity of the scenes.
But thanks to the encouragement he received from his colleagues, he managed to finish the project giving his best at all times. That was not all, it was also influenced by the trust he had in director James Cameron, who turned his vision into history.
“I remember it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, it was incredibly tedious. I am grateful to have been surrounded by the people who worked with me, I loved the cast. It just took forever to shoot that movie and that’s why it was very difficult, but My castmates kept me going and I also believed in director James Cameron,” he said.
I knew I was in the middle of something that would become historic, although I didn’t know how historic, but I was sure that I was working with a visionary, with a man for whom I have nothing but respect and who loves working with him and with everyone else in the cast, it just took forever.
The role played by Victor Garber was fundamental and took a lot of emotional toll, because he represented the engineer that everyone blamed because the ship did not hold and sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg. His scenes are among the most remembered, mainly the encounter of him with Rose (Kate Winslet) while trying to save her life with Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio).
When questioning him about the most important character in his career, Victor Garber explained that many are endearing, but without a doubt the project that opened the doors for him was Jesus. And it is that the American actor starred in a Godspell, a project inspired by Gospel of Saint Matthew set in 1970s New York.
“Well I don’t have one, it’s not… I mean I played Jesusthat would be simple, though yes it was something that changed my life. Of course I have made many films, I have memories of all of them, although some have been more interesting or fun to make than others, but I don’t have a favorite character, rather I feel that I have been very lucky to play many different people, some real, some mythical, fictional, but I don’t really have a favorite,” he said.
Regarding the difficulties that artists in the community may face LGBT+commented: “Of course there is and always will be, I’ve never really paid much attention to it, I just do what I do and people love me because I’m a good actor, that’s how I’ve lived my life”.
It should be remembered that the 73-year-old actor broke all barriers and married Rainer Andreesen in 2015.
Victor Garber is promoting his new series, Family Law, where he plays a lawyer who works with his children in the same office. Regarding the plot, the American explained that family dramas will be treated alongside legal cases.
“It is a broken family, it is a father with three children from three different wives, we started with that. Every child has their problems with their father, of course, they come from different family dynamics, it’s more diverse and dramatic, particularly Jewel the eldest daughter, who, when we meet her, is going through a divorce, as well as realizing that she has a problem with alcohol and her father basically comes to rescue her,” she said.
