The Dutch royal family is currently visiting the Caribbean island of Aruba. 19-year-old Crown Princess Amalia is joined by her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, on her first official visit as heir to the Dutch throne.
Royal visit to ABC Islands
The so-called ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao as well as Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba are part of the Dutch kingdom. All six islands are in the Caribbean. Already at the weekend, the royals were enthusiastically welcomed by the locals on Bonaire. An important theme of this approximately two-week royal trip is the history of slavery. Slavery did not end in the Dutch colonies until 1873.
It was Amalia’s first public appearance after becoming aware of organized crime threats. Now the princess has to deal with negative comments under her photos again. Countless social media users comment negatively on the weight of the heir to the throne. Amalia has been following this topic since she was young. Again and again there were negative and hurtful comments from the net.
The Royals hit the dance floor
But the princess seems to smile away at this aspect, she seems to be enjoying her first visit to Bonaire in the pictures. The “Oranjes” also hit the dance floor and attended the local “Bon Bini Aruba” festival. Amalia, Willem-Alexander and Máxima frolic in a good mood between colorful and glittering costumes.
On this trip, the princess deliberately opts for eye-catching, bright colors. She now seems to feel much more comfortable in her role as the crown princess and looks confidently into the cameras. External pressure, nasty comments in the press and online have not made it easy for the young woman to perform her role in recent years. During her time off she seems to have gathered strength for her future tasks. Because sooner or later she will follow in the footsteps of her parents and represent the Netherlands and her colonies.
