Rebekah Vardy has denied allegations that she repeatedly leaked private information about acquaintances to a tabloid in the court battle between two English football player wives. Chat messages that she exchanged with her agent about leaking information and demanding payments were “never serious,” asserted the wife of ex-national player Jamie Vardy on Wednesday.
the essentials in brief
- The 40-year-old has sued Coleen Rooney, 36, for defamation.
Former striker Wayne Rooney’s wife accuses Vardy of telling private stories to the gossip press. Because Rooney used criminal flair to convict her former friend, she was baptized by the media “Wagatha Christie” – a play on words from the abbreviation “wags” of the English term for gamers’ wives and the name of crime writer Agatha Christie.
Coleen Rooney’s attorney, David Sherborne, sued Rebekah Vardy for several text messages in which she allegedly instructed her agent to leak intimate information about celebrities. Vardy conceded one case. All other statements were meant to be funny, and her agent understood it that way too.
She never received money for piercings, nor was she aware that her agent was following her celebrity friends’ accounts through Vardy’s Instagram account. She is also not friends with journalists, Vardy said. At the same time, she admitted a meeting with a reporter from the tabloid “Sun”. The hearing is scheduled to continue this Thursday.
