Rachel Zegler revealed on her Instagram account on Sunday March 20 that she was not invited to the Oscars ceremony despite the musical’s nominations West Side Story.
Rachel Zegler, 20, informed her fans in an Instagram photo, posted on Sunday, March 20, that she would not be attending the Oscars ceremony scheduled for March 28. When a surfer reacted to the snapshot of the actress in which we see her wearing a blue satin dress, despairing of knowing how she would be dressed at the sacrosanct cinema ceremony, the actress replied: “I I’m not invited so it will be a tracksuit and my boyfriend’s sweatshirt”. Words that have, of course, reacted, even enraged, many fans.
The American actress clarified that she had “tried everything” to participate. “I will watch how far West Side Story from my sofa and I will be proud of the work we have done tirelessly for three years. Before adding: “I hope that a last minute miracle will happen and that I could physically celebrate our film but sometimes everything does not go as we want. Thank you for the shock and the indignation, I am also disappointed but proud of our film”.
Rachel made her big screen debut in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the musical West Side Storyreleased in 2021. Despite rave reviews for her role as Maria, the sister of Bernardo, leader of the Sharks, she did not receive a nomination.
Another disappointment for tonight
However, she is not the only actress not to be nominated in her category. Lady Gaga, who plays Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci (2021), was also not nominated for the Best Actress Oscar. Like Rachel Zegler, she showed her bitterness through an Instagram post, dated February 8, congratulating Frederic Aspiras, for his nomination in the make-up and hairstyle category, the only nomination for the film.
west side Story is still nominated in several categories, that of the best film, the best director and the best actress in a supporting role for Anita, played by Ariana DeBose.
