According to the confidences shared by Tyler Perry in the magazine varietythis Monday, June 13, Will Smith quickly regretted having slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony.
It’s a moment that really marked the year 2022. On March 27, on the occasion of the Oscars, Will Smith had slapped Chris Rock following a joke deemed to be in bad taste. As a reminder, the American comedian had shared – in front of the entire audience – a valve bearing on Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia. A joke that Will Smith did not appreciate. However, as one of his friends, Tyler Perry, told the variety-magazine this Monday, June 13, the father of Willow and Jaden Smith quickly regretted his gesture.
Indeed, as the American media recalls, Tyler Perry was also present at the Oscars ceremony. Some time after the slap, the latter quickly left to see Will Smith to collect his first impressions. “I was there up close, I left early to go see Chris because it was bad in plain words“, first remembered the friend of Will Smith, before continuing on his discussion with Will Smith: “I made sure to tell Will that, and when we went to see him, he was devastated. He couldn’t believe what had happened.”
Jada Pinkett Smith comes out of silence
After the Oscars, Jada Pinkett Smith had been very discreet in the media and had not quickly expressed itself on this unfortunate event. However, during a previous interview with the podcast Red Table Talk, the latter had, for the first time, shared her vision of things. “Speaking of Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two smart, capable men have an opportunity to heal, discuss and reconcile“, she had first let it be known.
“Given the state the world is in right now, we need both of them. And above all we need each other, more than ever“, then declared Jada Pinkett Smith, before continuing, on her relationship with Will Smith: “In the meantime, Will and I continue to do what we have been doing for 28 years, that is, trying to understand this thing called life.”
