Nobody expected that: Actually, Chris Rock was only supposed to announce the best documentary at the 94th Academy Awards. But what happened next shocked everyone involved. Will Smith took the stage – and gave the comedian a juicy slap in the face. The background to the scandal was a joke that Rock made in the direction of Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock looked more than irritated after the hit, Smith left the stage. A video has now surfaced on Twitter showing the Oscar thug needing comfort after the blow.
Will Smith is comforted
American journalist and presenter Scott Feinberg posted a video on his Twitter profile showing Smith being comforted by Hollywood stars Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper. The tweet said it was Tyler Perry, but other photos later revealed Bradley Cooper was trying to speak to Smith.
During the commercial break, Smith and Washington stand together and talk. The latter puts his hand on the “Prince of Bel Air” star’s shoulder. They walk a few steps, then Smith meets Cooper. He also puts his hand on Smith’s shoulder and tries to cheer him up. After the conversation, Smith apparently wipes tears from his face. However, it is not clear whether Smith is talking to his colleagues about his win or his blow.
The great silence
So far, the actor is silent on his attack. He also did not answer the journalists’ questions in the press room, as reported by t-online reporter Jennifer Doemkes, who is on site live. It is more than usual that the winners of a trophy show up later for a press conference.
Smith, his wife or Chris Rock have not yet commented on the 94th Academy Awards scandal on their Instagram and Twitter channels. Ahead of the awards show, the Smiths, at least, have been very active on social media, sharing snaps from the red carpet or their outfits for the awards show.
