The outstanding national musician ZAV announced that he will present his ambitious show “Zavrosura” at the Británico throughout the month of June. There will be two more dates where the important performer will give a lecture on the flavor, rhythm and power of Afro-Peruvian culture: June 16 and 22 from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm on a route through the main British auditoriums in the capital.
ZAV’s music “is as if Herbie Hancock had met Lucila Campos in Carmen, Chincha,” explains composer and band manager Julio Zavala. The fruit of 10 years of exploring the Peruvian rhythms of the coast with jazz and other contemporary forms such as pop and funk, have finally macerated a result that nourishes ears and feet alike:
“We try to subliminally introduce jazz and sonic sophistication while the audience is enjoying themselves, like a Trojan horse,” says ZAV.
ZAV’s trajectory has been bearing fruit thanks to the discipline and natural talent of the musicians who make up the project. To date, the project has won two composition awards at the national level, one international awarded by the Program for the Promotion of Ibero-American Music (IBERMUSICAS) in 2016, in addition to winning the Economic Stimulus for Record Production awarded by the Ministry of Culture. in 2018; and the band’s participation in two editions of the International Jazz Festival in Lima, in the Lima International Book Fair, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, and in the Serenade for the 487th Anniversary of the City of Lima in 2022, to mention some great presentations.
The show “Zavrosura” continues in constant mutation, to the delight of the musicians that make up the band (some of the best on the national scene) and of the participating public itself. Celebrations, Landós, Zamacuecas, Jazz, is what ZAV reflects in each composition. Going to a “Zavrosura” concert is, for the musicians and the listeners, putting a grain of sand in the construction of a new cultural phenomenon in which Peruvian music is enjoyed as a contemporary fact that happens here and now.
Appointments to see this free show thanks to the British Cultural Center will be on Thursday 16 (Los Jardines – SMP venue) and Wednesday 22 (San Juan de Lurigancho venue) from 7:30 to 8:30 pm
